Category: Let's talk
There doesn't seem to be a topic for this yet, so let's start one. Post here if you'll be attending the 2011 American Council of the Blind Conference and Convention in Reno, Nevada. I'll be there, and on behalf of the NABS convention committee, I invite you to participate in the exciting and informative sessions we have planned. Read the latest issue of the Student Advocate at http://www.acbstudents.org/newsletter for more information. On a personal note, I'm looking forward to the Fallon Naval Air Station Tour, private gambling lessons, exploring the Exhibit Hall, and as always, reconnecting with old friends and meeting new ones. Hope to see many of you in Reno.
This has been made a sticky topic, and will remain so til the end of the convention. Enjoy.
I've never been to convention and won't be able to attend this year either, but I hope to go one of these years. It sounds like it's a great experience.
I spent what money I had attending the AADB conference in kentucky this year, but perhaps next year. From a professional standpoint, I'd like to check out both an ACB and an NFB convention. As I've heard bad things about Dallas, I doubt I'll be doing NFB next year. Where will the next ACB conference be held? If we know that yet, I'd take it in to serious consideration.
Yeah, the Dallas hotel is huge and scary. The next ACB convention will be held at the Galt House in Louisville. Love both the hotel and the city so very excited about going back. Hope you can make it. And I agree, everyone should check out both conventions at least once. How was AADB? Some friends of mine went and had a great time.
Oo, the Galt House in Louisville! Great stuff! The NFB was there in 02, 03, and 05, and I was at the 02 and 03 conventions. So, glad the ACB is going there.
For me, the Dallas hotel isn't so much scary as annoying as hell. that, and even more annoying is that there's nothing within walking distance. From the Galt House, as I remember, a ton of things are.
I agree that people should check out both Conventions. I do intend to check out an ACB one at some point, even though I am most definitely a Federationist. Heck, maybe I should go to ACB next year, given where it is, and where NFB is.
We'd love to have you, several NFB members have checked our conventions out since I've joined. And yes, that was something else I disliked about the Dallas hotel. I attended the 2006 NFB convention there and didn't leave the hotel all week. Next year will be my fourth time in Louisville, and I look forward to exploring it some more.
Perhaps I will. One of the reasons I haven't yet is that I just don't know that many Council members, and really don't feel like going to a Convention where I am not acquainted with anyone. However, as time has gone on, I'm gaining an increasing number of friends who are part of the ACB, so if they are going to be there, it would be more of an incentive for me to be.
I might consider going to the ACB convention next year given the nfb's crummy location. I'm not sure though since I also want to make it to CSUN. We shall see though.
The AADB conference, board meetings aside, was awesome! many drinks were had, networking was done, and I got to enjoy some nice thunder storms. So maybe I'll end up in kentucky again next year after all. LOL. I'm also hoping to go to CSUN, but that depends on whether the agency I work for will fund it. Does ACB have a scholarship program for first time attendees? That would help my chances of going dramatically. I think that ACB and AADB need to work together on some things. Although I also think NFB and ACB should work together on certain issues as well.
